Rally to Restore Sanity: Jon Stewart will even supply the signs

With all the news surrounding recent political (or non-political!) rallies, such as the Glenn Beck ‘Restoring Honor’ rally, it’s rather refreshing to hear of a different sort of rally altogether. On last night’s Daily Show, presenter Jon Stewart declared a “Rally to Restore Sanity”and appealed viewers to join him on Washington’s National Mall on 30 October 2010 to “take it down a notch for America.”
If you’re either a right or a left extremist then forget it. Stewart’s aim is to encourage the 70 to 80% of Americans that don’t get too passionate either way in his somewhat optimistic “Million Moderate March.” The question is if you’re really not an extremist then could you be bothered to attend? Well Stewart has even thought of those who may be a little apathetic about creating their own signs saying he will supply such signs as “I Disagree With You But I’m Pretty Sure You’re Not Hitler,” amongst others, according to Ken Tucker over on EW.com.
Jon Stewart concedes that the “Rally to Restore Sanity” coincides nicely with the show’s planned trip to Washington and also his new book but maybe’s it’s not all as much of a joke as first intended as he does say it would be good to see more civil discourse in news coverage. Stephen Colbert, Stewart’s sometime partner-in-crime, also announced his own rally at exactly the same time in the same place, the “March to Keep Fear Alive” rally.
I have to say as an antidote to the usual rallies that dominate the news I’d be quite tempted to join in the “Rally to Restore Sanity,” which Stewart also says is for people “who have s*** to do.” For more on this go to ew.com. We’re really interested to gauge numbers in people who would attend Jon Stewart’s rally in Washington on October 30 so please do send in your comments and views on this.
